After the deviations or the food excess that we allowed ourselves during the end of the year holidays, here is the time to get back in control to start 2020 well. Here are our January new rules for a healthy year.

2020 is more than a new year, it is also the beginning of a new decade, so it is, therefore, the perfect time to adopt good habits.

With multiple rich meals, often including alcohol and a few too short nights, I do not mention the gastro epidemic in France and Belgium and perhaps elsewhere too, our body has been badly battered lately. Let’s take now the right steps to get us back on our feet. Here are our 5 tips.

1 / A warm lemon on an empty stomach

Lemon is an ally of detox cures for its antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties. Squeeze a lemon juice, preferably organic, add lukewarm water to this freshly squeezed juice and drink this 15-30 minutes before your breakfast.

Lemon juice has a diuretic effect which eliminates toxins. The citric acid contains in the juice, stimulates and cleanses the liver, helping to detoxify the body. Lukewarm water gently wakes the body to start well a new detox day.

2 / Let’s improve our diet

Let’s adopt a healthier and more varied diet, here’s how to reconnect with a more balanced diet. To eliminate toxins and cleanse our body, we stop processed foods that are too rich in fat and sugar and we reduce our consumption of red meats and dairy products. We introduce more fish, lean meats such as turkey or vegetable proteins which are easily assimilated by the body. We introduce vegetable juice in our morning ritual. This is, much more than a fashion, it is the true friend of your body. By drinking vegetable juice every day, you are bringing vitamins and nutrients to your body. The easiest way is to gradually incorporate more vegetables into your fruit juice. You will gradually adapt to a less sweet taste. Vegetable juice will be a great beauty and health ally. Vary the vegetables, but always choose them organic and seasonal.

If you are not yet a vegetable juices addict, you can introduce vegetables into your diet in different forms. Currently, we eat carrots and red beets which are filled up with antioxidants, we eat cabbages in all shapes and colors. We take a break at 4 p.m. to eat a citrus fruit, so we are well on our right way to easily introduce fruits and vegetables into our diet. Homemade vegetable soup, easy and healthy is another alternative.

3 / Hydrate yourself

It is essential to stay hydrated. We daily drink two liters of water in different forms, water, herbal tea, vegetable juice or soups. We forget soft drinks and alcohol. We could also add coffee to this exclusion list, but if you feel happy with a coffee, it is fine, but only one and please drink before 4 p.m.

4 / Adopt a better lifestyle

Eating better is essential, but to regain your energy and full potential, other habits must be changed. In winter, the days are shorter and if it is a foggy day, we may feel really down as this lack of light can affect us. We start doing sport again, because this practice will reduce the external manifestations of mild depression linked to the lack of light by the release of endorphins which cause pleasure without the risk of physical dependence.

It’s up to us to choose the one that resonates with us and that we are happy to practice 2-3 times a week. A daily 30 minutes active walk is also an interesting alternative. Sport will also help you to better sleep which is another important key for enjoying a top life in 2020. We go to bed earlier and get 7-8 hours of sleep. We forget the screens 2 hours before going to sleep. Icing on the cake, we stop smoking if that’s the case. The practice of a sporting activity will help you with a possible weight gain.

5 / We take time for ourselves

We daily give ourselves some time for example a few minutes to start. We take this opportunity to focus on our needs and desires. With our hectic rhythms between work, family and all our activities, we find few minutes for ourselves. Don’t feel guilty, if you are well and in tune with yourself, you will be less irritable, nervous and ready to face effectively the surprises that life has in store for you.
